Fellowship Details
The ITESO Fellowship in Humanizing Pedagogies and Community Practice will provide Stanford undergraduates an opportunity to work with a team of ITESO students, faculty and community partners on projects that will provide students opportunities to gain real life work experience by developing, creating, analyzing and building products, resources and technology for the service of the public good. It will provide students an opportunity to learn how to engage in community work that is grounded in the lived experiences of those communities they seek to serve. The experience will provide students a unique opportunity to integrate themselves into a community of practice that is grounded in the principles of consciousness raising, a humanizing approach and social transformation-all within the context of lived experiences of Latina/o(x)and Mexicana/o(eks) in Guadalajara and across its region.
Students will enroll in a CSRE 198C for (5 units) in Spring 2020, participate in a 9-week fellowship program, will work 30 hours a week with a partner group or organization, attend a weekly summer practicum taught by Dr. Rigoberto Marquez and a ITESO faculty member, participate in a two-week excursion to Mexico City and Oaxaca and provide a deliverable to their community partner by the end of the summer. Student's will also present their work at CCSRE's Engaged Scholars Symposium in the Autumn.

Spring Course CSRE 198C (5 units)This course will meet Tuesday's from 4:00pm - 5:30pm in the spring quarter. The course will focus on the following educational outcomes: an understanding of the “popular education” model by reading and learning about how this model has been applied across different community contexts; understanding the country and region by reading social and cultural texts; a plan for the summer that has been worked on with our ITESO partners that let students know their community placement and type of work they will be doing over the summer. This course is designed to prepare students for their summer work.

This course will be co-taught by Dr. Rigoberto Marquez and an instructor from ITESO’s. The final for the practicum is a reflection on their summer experience, the work they were able to accomplish and an outline for their final paper due in the autumn.
